How to Adopt
The adoption process, according to the Nebraska Humane Society.
-
Be 19 and have a valid identification. All home renters must have landlord approval for the pet. Come prepared to show your pet policy, have a signed notification that your landlord approves or the phone number to call and verify your landlord's requirements.
-
Come to the shelter to check out the animal, so you can meet the pet in person before taking him or her home.
-
To meet an animal you like, fill out an adoption survey and hand it in at customer service. The forms are located on the inside front wall of the lobby.
-
You’ll get a pager that vibrates when an adoption counselor is ready to get you together with your possible new pet. All adopters see animals on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
The counselor will give you any information they have about the animal, including any medical records, previous owner information and reports from dog walkers and cat companions regarding the pet’s personality.
-
This is a big decision. Give yourself time to meet and get to know your potential new pet.
-
Adoption hours are noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Submit your adoption application at least an hour before closing time, since the humane society needs time to process it.
-
Take your new pet home and give him or her all the love you have!
